EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE: WAEC IDENTIFIES 56 ROGUE WEBSITE OPERATORS

The West African  Examinations  Council  has   announced   that  it has identified 56  fraudulent  website operators  who   have   been   implicated  in  exam   failures  since the  launch  of  the   current   certification   exam   for  West African  high  school candidates. 

 National   Council   Secretary   General   Patrick   Allegan   made  the  announcement  on  Thursday   alongside   surveillance   training  in some schools in  Lagos.  He also said that  so   far,   as   many   as  20 school  officials   have  been arrested and handed over to the  police   on   suspicion   of   aiding   test   mistakes.  

 "Problems   such   as  candidates  making   copies  in the examination  room,  some examiners dictating or writing on the  blackboard  for candidates, smuggling materials  into   or  out of the  examination   room,  and other forms of  collusion.   was   there.  

 “But   the   biggest   concern  is the issue of  fraudulent  websites. 

 "I   can  confidently  say  that so  far  we have identified 56 of these  fraudulent  website operators and  their   patrons,  and we  will   confront   them.   intend   to.   “Because   operators   use   Photoshop   most   of   the   time,   all   the   material  candidates see on these  fraudulent  websites  is   fake.  

 "You  can  superimpose 2023 on  your   2020  paper  and use it to  fool  them. 

 "When   you   arrive   at  the examination  room,  everything  feels   so  strange  that   it's   empty,"   he   explained.  

 Allegan  said  the council  is   compiling  the number of arrests made  so   far   across  the country  to  ensure justice  is   done.  

He noted that the council  has  a very good working relationship with the  Police  Commissioner   General  and other military  units  in the country. 

 The WAEC  Secretary   explained  that  testing   errors   around   the   world   are  as old as education itself,  stressing that this  does  not mean  the   public  should  put   up   with   it  in any  way.  He called on the  education   ministry,   government  and schools to  take  responsibility  for   themselves   and   save  the education system from imminent collapse. 

 “The   government   must  ensure that  laboratories, libraries and  many   other   educational   facilities   are   provided.”   We   need   to   monitor  and  supervise  these schools  carefully.”  

 “On  the other  hand,   principals  must ensure  absolute discipline and also ensure  teacher   guidance.”   Each  school must have at least two copies of the WAEC syllabus and  each  teacher must have  one  copy.  "In   fact,   we  encourage  test   takers  to  purchase  their own  books   to   understand   what   is   being   taught."   

   "Parents   should   give   their   children   the   materials  they  need,"  he  advised   parents.   "Give  them books and encourage them to go to school.  Give   them   books."  “Stop funding  their   illegal   activities,   especially   paying  for  exam  questions that  don't   exist.”  They  shouldn't  be the ones  misleading   children   and   destroying   their   future.   "The   time   has   come  to  wipe   out   this   country's  education  system,"   he   said,   emphasizing  the importance of education.  “I have said  many   times:  Education is the  foundation  of society.  It  is  a  vehicle  for  development.  I   will   decide,"  he said.  In   his   opinion,   destroying   education  destroys  everything in  this   country.   So,   he   said,   everyone   needs   to  be on deck to  do   everything  right.  Meanwhile,  Principal  Vadejo   Moreniche  of  Sacred  Heart Comprehensive High School, one of the schools visited,  commended  the WAEC  Director's   tireless  efforts in  combating   exam   failures  in the country.  He said  it was the right step in the right  direction   for  the  country   to   accelerate   its  development.  Noting  that  hard work  is  the  only  way to a stable and progressive country,  he   added  that the school  will  continue to  adhere  to academic excellence and  strive  to ensure  sustainable   quality.   Schools  visited for  monitoring  included   Ikehebi  ST and  T,   Ikehebi  High  School,  and State  High  School.
