Student loan: NANS demands ASUU’s removal from board

 Leaders  of the National  Nigerian   Students  Association  visited President Bola  Tinub   on   Tuesday   to   ask   about  the student loan  law  he  enacted  on Monday.  

The NANS delegation was  headed  by the  organization's  National  President  Umar  Balambu.  

 After   meeting  with the  president,   Balambu   said   he   had   asked   state   legislative   correspondents  to review the  composition  of the  task   force   overseeing   Nigeria's  new  education   loan   fund   and  include student representatives. 

 NANS President said:  "Thank   you  President for the  Student  Loan  Act.   We've   listed  the clauses  we're   less   satisfied  with. And part of  that  is  an   organizational  issue  that we  told  the  president   that  at least  student  representatives should be  recorded  and there are some  organizations  that  record   that,   but  they  don't   think   we   do.   They   don't   record   it   because  they  have   to.  

“We  have   set  an  example   for   him,  especially the Nigerian Bar Association, ASUU.  I   don't   think   it   makes   sense   to   have   them  on  our   board,   which   is   made   up   entirely   of   students.   

   "We   are   the   bank's   most   important   stakeholder.   So  I  don't  think  it's   a   good   idea  to allow them to be  there.  Not only them,  but   also   many   others   who  should  be   encouraged   to   abandon   student-centered   organizations.   "

In response, the President promised to  listen   to  the  demands  of  NAS   leaders,  but urged  student   organizations  to ensure  that  members across the country  are   united  to achieve more.  We   must  promote unity and stability  with  each other.  Programs   and   elections   must   use  democratic  means.  I have to say  that   those  who  cannot  accept and celebrate  free and fair  elections   do  not deserve the joy of  victory,"   Tinub  said.  The President  stressed  that poverty should not prevent  Nigerians  from obtaining  the highest  standards   of   quality   education.  

Therefore, he  promised  that  the   government  would  allocate  more resources to the education sector to ensure that  all  Nigerian  children   have   access   to   quality   education  regardless of their  background.  

“Poverty  is   what   prevents   even  the  daughters   and   sons  of  timber,   plantain   and  yam  dealers  from  obtaining   the  highest  standards  of  education  to  eradicate   poverty.   It   won't,"   he  said  at  the  national   convention.   The  Nigerian Students  Association   was   mentored  at the  Abuja  State  Capitol.  

“If we all believe that education is the  best  weapon against poverty,  we  need  to invest in it.  Remove   family  poverty  and  you can carry the  rest,”  the  president  said.  .  He thanked the students  who   supported  the  abolition  of  gasoline   subsidies   and   explained  the reasons  for  the decision and the need to curb smuggling.  "It's   nice   to   know   why
